What is open access play?

A supervised provision that can be run in a building, park or open space. It has been designed to respond to the needs of children and young people by providing a stimulating environment and a wide variety of resources.

 

Freedom of choice

To experience a diverse range of activities available; helping to build confidence and self esteem.

 

What's offered?

Free play opportunities for children/young people aged 5-14. Attendees can only be supervised whilst on site. 

Children cannot be confined to the Play Scheme, its grounds or prevented from going as they please. 

 

Its free!

No child should be required to pay to use a play provision because play is a fundamental right of all children.

 

All inclusive

Parents/carers are advised to discuss with play staff any issues they may have regarding their child's health or behaviour. This will ensure the child's individual needs are met in an appropriate environment.

Are not simply play areas with fixed wooden play equipment. Staffed open access facilities where children can:

 

(1)   have the opportunity to design.

(2)   use tools to build their own play equipment.

(3)   be involved in a whole range of activities

(4)   learn to manage risk in a supervised environment.
