Sports and Play Development

Our sports and play development team create opportunities
and initiatives all year round for people of all ages and
abilities to take part in physical activities.
Get involved in our various schemes and also take a look at the
Vale of Glamorgan Local
Authority Partnership Agreement (LAPA), which sets out our
targets for increasing physical activity across all age groups and
geographical areas in the Vale.

Dragon
Sport
The flagship Dragon Sport scheme recruits and trains
volunteers to help, set up, or run clubs for seven to
eleven-year-olds. The scheme focuses on eight key sports.
|
|
Play in the Vale
Youngsters can
also really enjoy themselves, and keep active at the same time,
by getting involved in play schemes and play ranger
events across the Vale.

|
5x60 scheme
The 5x60 initiative encourages secondary school pupils to
take part in extra-curricular sport to achieve a target of
five hours (5 x 60 minutes) of physical activity each week.
|
|
Football
On the football
front, the Vale Football Development Centre aims to
develop our future soccer stars, while regular fun football courses
also improve their silky skills.
|
|
Rugby development
The
council's rugby development officer aims to increase participation
and improve performance to develop rugby for boys and
girls.
|
|
Disability sports
We also work hard to
provide opportunities for disabled people to take part in sports

Community
Chest
The
Community Chest grants scheme helps to develop a
range of new opportunities for sports and physical activities in
the Vale of Glamorgan.

Vale Sports Academy Scheme
The Vale Sports Academy helps local elite athletes train
for the top by giving them free use of Vale leisure
facilities.

Local Active
Places
Sport Wales have set up a new website 'Active Places Cymru'
which makes it easy to find your nearest sports facilities.
Search the database of 2,000 venues for playing sports.
