'5 x 60' in the Vale
What's 5x60?
‘5 x 60’ is the Welsh Assembly Government’s
£7.6 million initiative, designed to help create opportunities
for secondary school pupils to participate in 60 minutes of
physical activity on
5 days a week.
The vision
By 2008 the aim is for every secondary school in the Vale to be
allocated their own 5 x 60 Officer
to work with teachers, the local community, parents and pupils
alike to ensure that physical activity is fun, safe and
participation levels are dramatically increased.
Nationally
The goal is for schools to have 90% of its pupils
happily undertaking 1 hours exercise on at least 5 days a
week by the year 2020.
Why is 5 x 60 being introduced?
To continue the momentum started by the Sports Council for
Wales’ Dragon Sport
scheme - the highly acclaimed lottery funded programme that
facilitates the delivery of extra-curricular sport and physical
activity in primary schools across Wales.
