Community Chest
Overview and aim
Community Chest is a Sports Council for Wales grant-aid scheme
funded by the National Lottery. Aiming to support the
development of sport and physical activity in the community by
enabling organisations to apply for up to £1,000 within a financial
year.
Purpose
Is to support good projects that will create new or improved
sport and physical activity opportunities that would not be
possible without a grant.
Supporting
Sports and physical activity projects that:
- Encourage more people to become more physically active more
often.
- Improve standards of performance.
- Encourage volunteers and community champions by developing new
sport and physical activity leaders, sports coaches and
officials.
- Encourage partnerships with other agencies that are involved
with health improvement, physical activity, community development,
community safety, social inclusion, regeneration and renewal.
Who can apply?
The Community Chest panel meet every two months to consider
applications. Any organisation can apply within the following
guidelines:
- Applicants must hold a bank account in the name of the
organisation.
- Applications for individuals are not eligible.
- All organisations must have an acceptable constitution or set
of rules.
- If the above has yet to be adopted applicants must
demonstrate how the organisation is organised & managed.
- Grants must be additional to existing or normally funded
programmes and services.
- Primary schools are not eligible to apply for funding.
What can be funded?
The following list indicates areas that may
be; although it'is not exhaustive:
- Recruitment and training of volunteers, leaders and
coaches.
- Non-personal small items of equipment.
- Publicity and promotional materials.
- Initial hall hire costs / coach and mentoring costs.
