Rugby
Introduction
The Vale's Rugby Development Officer is Matt Silva (pictured
right). He aims to increase participation, improve performance
and remind everyone how enjoyable community rugby is!
Matt's employed by the Vale of Glamorgan Council, Welsh
Rugby Union and Cardiff Blues. Working as part of the
Sports Development Unit, with Dragon Sport and other external
agencies Matt ensures rugby opportunities are developed
effectively.
Work undertaken
Matt works with local rugby clubs and schools to build up a
list of every player in the area - including all abilities, ages
and levels.
Professional support includes:
- volunteer recruitment to become community development
officers
- coach development
- player development
- advise on sourcing funding.
- school and club accreditation
- Disability groups
- girls rugby
- working with schools.
- elite player identification
All inclusive play
Rugby is committed to encouraging and assisting individuals to
participate in rugby at all levels of ability. Coaches will be
educated in disability awareness and attention will be given to
creating new opportunities for people with various disabilities.
Where identified we will offer integrated or separate coaching
sessions.
School and Club Accreditation
Will be made available for individuals wanting to develop their
skills.
