Eligibility Criteriabaton runner

 

There are only 50 spaces on the Sports Academy scheme. Status will be awarded after considering information provided against the eligibility criteria.

 

Furthermore, there are only 3 spaces per sport allocated. If more apply, the decision making panel will liaise with the National Governing Body before a decision is made.

 

Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee acceptance onto the scheme.

 

Applicants must be Vale residents and:

  • participate in a sport that's recognised by the Sports Council for Wales and be affiliated to the appropriately recognised National Governing Body.
  • must have usually reached Welsh or British squad status and represented their country in their sport in the previous year and be in a position to achieve further International honours in the following year.
  • if applications are low, Welsh squad members who may not have yet achieved international honours may be considered if the National Governing Body can provide significant supportive information on their future potential for Welsh honours.
  • be aware that priority will be given to sports performers under the age of 25.

Non eligible athletes are individuals who:

  • represent their country in Masters competitions.
  • represent National Governing Bodies of Sport that are not recognised by the Sports Council for Wales.
  • already benefit from free facilities or other funding to assist with their training.
  • are professional sportspeople who receive payment for their performances.
  • are individuals chosen to represent Welsh Schools in a sport that does not constitute full International honours.
