Eligibility Criteria
There are only 50 spaces on the Sports Academy scheme.
Status will be awarded after considering information provided
against the eligibility criteria.
Furthermore, there are only 3 spaces per sport allocated.
If more apply, the decision making panel will liaise with the
National Governing Body before a decision is made.
Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee acceptance
onto the scheme.
Applicants must be Vale residents and:
- participate in a sport that's recognised by the Sports Council
for Wales and be affiliated to the appropriately recognised
National Governing Body.
- must have usually reached Welsh or British squad status and
represented their country in their sport in the previous year and
be in a position to achieve further International honours in the
following year.
- if applications are low, Welsh squad members who may not
have yet achieved international honours may be considered if the
National Governing Body can provide significant supportive
information on their future potential for Welsh honours.
- be aware that priority will be given to sports performers under
the age of 25.
Non eligible athletes are individuals who:
- represent their country in Masters competitions.
- represent National Governing Bodies of Sport that are not
recognised by the Sports Council for Wales.
- already benefit from free facilities or other funding to assist
with their training.
- are professional sportspeople who receive payment for their
performances.
- are individuals chosen to represent Welsh Schools in a sport
that does not constitute full International honours.
