Hammer Strength Gym at Holm View Leisure Centre
Extra
muscle has been added to the leisure facilities in Barry with the
opening of the new Hammer Strength Gym at Holm View leisure
centre.
The new gym is perfect for anyone aged 16+ who is serious about
their weight training. Memberships for using the gym cost from
£20 a month, while you can also pay as you train. All full
LifeStyle
members can also use the gym free of charge.
The gym and is the latest in a series of exciting improvements
that are being made in local communities across the town as part of
the multi-million-pound Barry Regeneration Fund.
£100,000 was awarded by the Welsh Assembly Government for the
Hammer Strength project, and the new gym is a huge improvement on
the old Hammer Strength Gym which was located just a mile away at
the Colcot Sports Centre.
The new facility is more than twice as big as the old cramped
gym, and has twice as many weights stations and machines. The gym
also contains cardiovascular equipment that wasn’t available at the
Colcot Sports Centre including a treadmill, rower and exercise
bike.
An area of the gym is dedicated to boxing training, with
several punch bags and space for pad work, while a qualified member
of staff will always be on duty to help with training advice. Both
the male and female changing rooms have been completely refurbished
while the CCTV system has also been upgraded.
Speaking at the official opening of the new Hammer Strength Gym,
the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure and
Tourism Cllr Anthony Ernest said: “I am delighted to see how an
under-utilised area of Holm View Leisure Centre has been
transformed into another high quality leisure facility for the
town. I fully appreciate that a number of customers were concerned
that the council was taking a much-loved facility away from the
Colcot Sports Centre, but the feedback so far since the move has
been extremely positive. I would like to thank everyone who has
worked so hard to make this project happen in such a short period
of time.”
Also present at the opening was Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, ward
member for Gibbonsdown, who hopes that the gym will help make a
massive impact on the health of the local community, saying: “It’s
great to see Holm View Leisure Centre brought back to life. I hope
that the new gym will be popular with both old and new customers,
and that the gym will attract people from the local community and
beyond into the other parts of the leisure centre as well.”
