Swimming lesson stages
Here is a taste of what each stage
of our swimming lessons for children aged four and above
will cover...
| Puffin |
Water confidence class suitable for non-swimmers, developing
confidence in the water and basic movement skills. Work towards ASA
Puffin Award. |
| Stage 1 |
Develop basic movement skills and water confidence. |
| Stage 2 |
Develop floating, rotation and travel skills unaided. |
| Stage 3 |
Travel up to 10 metres on the front and back, further develop
rotation, submersion and floating skills. |
| Stage 4 |
Refine kicking technique for the four strokes, swim 10 metres
to a given standard as directed by the ASA. |
| Stage 5 |
Develop 'watermanship' through sculling and treading water,
develop complete rotation and perform all strokes to the given
standard as directed by the ASA. |
| Stage 6 |
Develop effective swimming skills including co-ordinated
breathing, developing water safety aspects and understanding of
preparation for exercise. |
| Stage 7 |
Develop quality stroke technique up to 100 metres to a given
ASA standard. |
Once a swimmer completes stage 7 then the following options are
available to them...
SWIMFIT
This is a stamina class aimed more at distance swimming.
Children are able to achieve distance awards as they progress and
technique will still be corrected in this class too.
ROOKIE LIFEGUARDS
Class aimed at teaching young people water safety and basic
lifesaving methods and technique. Participants learn how to spot a
swimmer in trouble, how to tow a casualty and the various rescue
methods available and how to use them.
STAGE 8 - COMPETITIVE SWIMMING
Designed specifically for swimmers who want to progress to a
swimming club. Teaches skills such as competitive starts and
turns and stroke legalities. You can also advance to stage 9 and
stage 10 competitive swimming.
