First Steps: How to Use a Computer
(Only available on library PCs)
If you are nervous or unsure when using a computer
can help you. It will introduce you to the main features of a PC. It can be used as a pre-cursor for ECDL, Clait and other electronic courses therefore providing a true level of educational progression.
The courseware takes a "nothing for granted" approach to introducing new learners into the world of IT. Initial navigation through the course is achieved by using the 1, 2 and 3 keys alone.
First Steps now includes Arabic, Bengali, Polish, Somali and Urdu text modules, which can be read whilst listening to the English speech.
At the end of each section there are multi choice questionnaires with revolving questions and answers to ensure that Learners have understood the previous content. Once a pass mark has been achieved Learners are able to print out their own certificates of achievements.
You can work through the courseware by yourself then after the first session as each section heading changes colour for the learner upon completion, navigation is simplicity itself.
Over 120 IT terms are explained in the Glossary.
