Allotments in the Vale

Who can have an allotment?

Anyone who lives in the Vale of Glamorgan can apply for a plot on any of our allotment sites.

What can you use the allotments for?

As long as the plot is properly maintained and cultivated, we're happy!

You can use the plot to grow vegetables or flowers and even to keep hens (but not cockerels) and other limited livestock.

If you wish to keep any livestock you must contact us to gain permission (please see contact details at the bottom of this page).

How big are the plots?

Most plots cover 250 square yards. If such a large area seems rather daunting, you can request half a plot and we can split a normal plot into two, for you to share with someone else. This will also halve the annual fee for the plot.

PotatoHow much does a plot cost?

On average, a plot costs about £25 a year. If you take on just half a plot we will also halve the annual fee. Our Aberthin Road site in Cowbridge has a different rate for historical reasons. State pensioners receive a 20 percent discount.

How long does it usually take to get a plot?

Waiting times depend on the site, and could last a matter of months or even years. It depends on the length of the waiting list for that site, and the turnover of available plots. When you contact us about a specific site we should be able to give you a better indication of the expected waiting time. Once weve received your request to be added to the waiting list you will receive confirmation from us that you have been included.

Occasionally we may be able to offer you a more challenging plot if you are willing to take on some hard work!lovely carrots

Who can I contact to report a problem with a plot? (e.g. poor maintenance)

We try to inspect all plots once a month to make sure theyre being properly maintained but please contact us if you do spot a problem

If there is an ongoing problem with the maintenance of a plot, the eviction process can take up to three months and we must then return the plot to its former state for the next person on our waiting list.
