Knap Gardens
One of the most popular all year round
destinations in Barry, the Knap Gardens is an oasis of
calm from the wind blowing in from the Cold
Knap with its flower filled borders, a sunken garden
and gently tinkling fountain. Summer or winter, the Knap
Gardens is a great place for families and dog walkers to go for a
stroll or a bracing walk.
The focal point of the garden is a harp-shaped like with ducks
and swans and during the summer months the occasional
remote controlled boat. There are a small number of
rowing boats and pedaloes for hire. If the
weather isn't too good, the recently refurbished shelters provide
welcome cover. For the more active there is the Richard
Taylor Memorial Skateboard park - the first municipal skateboard
park in Wales and a popular spot with youngsters
The area around the Knap was designed and developed under the
influence of the Garden City movement. There are some pleasant
1920’s houses, another large park and a small number of shops a
short distance away.
