2013 Events
Biodiversity Week 8 – 16 June
Biological diversity - or biodiversity - is a
term we use to describe the variety of life on Earth. It refers to
the wide variety of ecosystems and living organisms: animals,
plants, their habitats and their genes.
Pond
Dipping
Come along to Cosmeston on Saturday 8
June for an exciting activity with the Rangers ‘pond dipping’.
Water is an exciting habitat; there is a huge diversity of pond
life that can be found. The children will be amazed to see what
they can catch with a net in our dipping pond; stickleback fish,
water boatmen, dragonfly nymphs, water scorpions, whirligig beetles
to name but a few.
The activity is suitable for 7 – 11 year
olds
Two 1 hour sessions will be held 10 –11am and
11.30am – 12.30pm
Cost: free of charge
Booking is required due to limited spaces;
bookings can be made at the visitor centre desk or call

Capture a Biodiversity
Picture

What picture means biodiversity to you? Well,
now is your chance, all you have to do is take a digital photograph
at Cosmeston Lakes during biodiversity week (8 – 16 June) of
whatever you think captures and means biodiversity to you. It
could be a landscape, animal, insect or flower, it is totally up to
you. Once you have taken your photo send it in to cosmestonlakes@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk
or call into the visitor centre and we will make a copy from your
memory stick.
The images will be made into a 2 part slide
show for adults and under 16 years. These will be played on the
visitor centre screen and a selection put on our website.
The ‘capture a biodiversity picture’ is open
to all ages, please supply your name and contact details with your
digital picture and if you are 16 years or under please supply your
age. All photographs to be submitted by Friday 21st June.
