Pompeian Garden at Dyffryn
Built in 1909, the Pompeian garden is styled on ancient Roman
design. It is said to be based on gardens excavated in
Pompeii and visited by Reginald Cory and Thomas Mawson whilst
researching their proposals for Dyffryn Gardens.
A fountain is located in the centre of a sunken lawn area, which in turn is surrounded by majestic colonnades; a
garden room is located at the southern end of the
garden.
Climbing plants such as wisteria and clematis adorn the
columns, creating scent and colour through the main
season.
This garden was one of the original restoration projects
undertaken as part of the ongoing programme that is assisted by the
Heritage Lottery Fund. Having been closed for nearly 10 years,
the grade II listed structure was
reinstated in 1998.
