Building Regulations - Building Demolition
When considering demolishing a building, you may need to submit
a Demolition Notice.
Legally no one can start demolition work unless the local
authority has been notified.
Certain requirements need to be met such as:
- notifying adjoining owners and service providers
- removing and disposing of asbestos
- limiting the effects on adjoining properties
Responsibilities of the division also include the supervision of
private demolitions under the provisions of sections 80 and 81 of
the Building Act, to ensure that buildings are demolished in a safe
manner thus preventing any danger to the public during the course
of the work.
Please note that building control only deal with the physical
nature and you may need to gain planning permission for
any work being carried out.
The controls for demolition work are given in Sections 80 to 83
of the Building Act 1984.
