Swift survey
Swift numbers declined by around 20% between 1995 and 2005 -
probably due to the loss of nest sites in old buildings and
less friendly designs of new buildings.
Swifts are summer visitors to Wales, arriving
from Africa in May and returning to the southern sun in
August. Swifts pair for life, returning to the same breeding site
year after year - this is why its so important to find out where
they're nesting.
How you can help...
By getting involved in the swift survey and
submitting swift records you can help contribute to safeguarding
populations for the future.
We're co-ordinating survey work in Barry for
the biodiversity parternship this year - each volunteer is being
assigned a square to survey. But we also really need any
information on where swifts are nesting - download the survey
guidance and the survey form to get involved.
