Barry Island has been awarded the prestigious international Blue Flag for 2008.

 

This is the third time that Barry Island has received this award and becomes one of the forty-two beaches and marinas across Wales to fly the blue flag.

 

Assessment includes:

  • environmental management
  • educational information
  • water quality
  • beach cleanliness 
  • health and safety 

International accolade

Tourists can visit over twenty-two countries around the world and be guaranteed that the beach or marina they are visiting is world class. We are over the moon that Barry Island has been added to the list and is one of the best in Wales.

 

History

The Blue Flag campaign is administered in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy, the European Commission, and the Welsh Assembly Government. Blue Flags have been flying at beaches in the UK since the scheme started in 1987.
