Countrysidecow in field

The Vale of Glamorgan has a rich variety of landscapes, enjoyed by thousands of local people and visitors each year. Inland, you find a patchwork of small woodlands and hedgerows, while dramatic cliffs dominate the coast. Our limestone cliffs, downs, woodlands and wetlands are home to many plants and animals.

The Council's Countryside and Environmental Projects section helps to conserve and manage countryside areas so they are sustainable, to be enjoyed now and in the future.

We try to:

  • Look after our unique natural assets
  • Help you to enjoy and understand the countryside
  • Work with others to improve our physical environment

The Vale contains 19km of Heritage Coast, two Country Parks and over 500km of Public Rights of Way. Twenty-one of our important areas are Sites of Special Scientific Interest, which means they are of national importance for nature or geological conservation. If you'd like to find out more about Sites of Special Scientific Interest or other protected areas, you can visit the Countryside Council for Wales website.
