Events at Porthkerry Country Park

 

Some recent events at Porthkerry have included ….

 

Romilly school after their litter pick

The whole of Romilly Junior School visited the Park during one week in May and enjoyed a range of activities including beach art, footprint trails, pond dipping and forest exploration. On the final Friday 360 pupils and over 50 parents joined the rangers, Keep Wales Tidy, Eco- Schools and other council officers and help remove over 130 bags of rubbish, several tyres, a bath tub and six odd shoes! from the beach.

 

 

 

 

Pipistrelle in bat boxVale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Bat group recently helped the rangers at Porthekrry check 50 bat boxes throughout the park. Several of the boxes were being used by blue tits with two boxes having 10 chicks between them! The photo shows the commonest bat recorded in the boxes, a pipistrelle.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Part of the new orienteering route

 

The new orienteering route had its first test in April, with over 50 members of the South Wales Orienteering Club exploring the park on a lovely sunny sunday morning.

 

 

The park has facilities for schools - you could try pond dipping or hunting for minibeasts or the new orienteering course.
