Bathing Waters
Every summer between May and September the Vale of Glamorgan
Council and the Environment Agency Wales monitor the quality of
bathing waters in the Vale. Seawater at Penarth, Jackson's Bay
(Barry), Whitmore Bay (Barry), Watchouse Bay (Barry), Cold Knap
(Barry), Fontygary Bay, Limpert Bay (Gileston), Llantwit Major,
Southerndown and Ogmore are all sampled on a weekly basis and the
quality categorised as 'Excellent', 'Good' or 'Poor'.
The Vale of Glamorgan sample the Non-Designated Bathing Waters
at the following beaches:
Year on year bathing water quality continues to improve in the
Vale and across Wales. For up to date information on water quality
the result of the monitoring is posted on notice boards at each of
the beaches mentioned above.
The Environment Agency
sample the Designated Bathing Waters at the following beaches:
- Jackson's Bay
- Whitmore Bay
- Cold Knap
- Southerndown
