Why Control Pests?
What harm do pests do?
Pests can transmit diseases such as Salmonella and Weils Disease
to man and other animals. These infections can cause serious
illness. Occasionally they can be fatal.
Pests destroy enough food to feed 130 million people worldwide,
as well as contaminating approximately 33 million tonnes / year of
stored grain.
Pests can cause considerable damage to buildings and stored
commodities through gnawing and burrowing. They commonly gnaw
woodwork, cables and water pipes. They have even been known to
cause house fires, drains to collapse and roads and pavements to
subside.
What can you do to help?
There are many reasons why pests may grow in number such
as mild winters and warm summers, improved heating in homes,
increased litter including waste and inadequate treatment.
Rodents need harbourage - don't let accumulations of rubbish
build up in your garden. Remember that keeping old carpets,
furniture, timber or letting your garden become overgrown can
result in unwanted guests.
