Sampling
Here in the Vale of Glamorgan Council, we have an active
environmental monitoring programme.
We regularly monitor and check levels of
air pollutants such as Nitrogen Dioxide, we check levels near
the busy main roads, near the chemical complex as well as
background levels.
We also regularly monitor the levels of background radiation. We
began monitoring after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster to ensure
that the levels did not increase significantly. Everything gives
off some level of radiation, you, me, plants everything, so all the
readings within the Vale of Glamorgan are well within healthy
normal ranges.
In the summer months, we sample from all the non designated beaches in
the Vale.
