Swimming PoolsSwimming safety and Spas

The Pollution Team regularly visit and monitor public swimming pools in the Vale.  During a visit, samples of the water, from different points, are taken for analysis at the laboratory, a PH and Chlorine test are carried out and the pool records checked.  PH levels in a pool should be kept at about 7.5, neutral, a sudden change in PH could indicate a problem, especial with the chlorine levels, so these should be checked as well.  Chlorine levels in pools should be kept between 2-6 to be effective, free chlorine is most effective at 4.  All checks should be carried out at least twice a day.

We are available to offer help and advice to all public pools.

These visits are normally carried out on a six monthly bases, although if we receive a complaint or a request for assistance we will make additional visits.
