Health Through Warmth
From January 2012 the Vale of
Glamorgan Council will no longer be running the HTW scheme.
HTW will still exist and details will be announced shortly about
how to apply in 2012.
The Health Through Warmth (HTW) scheme is run by the
Vale of Glamorgan Council in partnership with npower. The aim of
the scheme is to improve the levels of warmth and comfort for
people with long term illnesses and health conditions. This is
achieved by HTW facilitating the installation of energy efficiency
and heating measures into the property. The scheme applies to
people who own or privately rent
(landlord's permission is required) their property.
HTW is able to assist
with:
- Cavity wall and loft insulation (each
measure could save up to £150)
- Boiler repairs or replacements (if
broken)
- Gas central heating installation, if none
exists or conversion from a solid fuel
- Benefits advice (via external bodies).
If no statutory grants are available then the
HTW Crisis Fund could assist. HTW arranges for an engineer to
attend and quote for the work required in which HTW can
contribute towards the cost of the work. If the client is unable
to contribute towards the work then HTW can research charity
organisations for a possible contribution.
Since the scheme was established in the Vale of Glamorgan in
2002 over 2,800 householders have been referred into the scheme and
over £3 million in grants has been successfully attained. This has
resulted in many people having an improved quality of life due to
help that HTW has provided.
HTW provides free training for people that interact with
vulnerable people, 989 people have had HTW training so
far. Each person who attends the training receives a
training pack and other additional information. HTW
also attends events and provides presentations to social
groups.
