Below we outline some of the ways in which you can improve your
home energy efficiency. Grant offers are subject to funds being
available and are sometimes subject to a survey.
Loft insulation
Reduces heat loss from 25% to 5%.
Savings of £60 - £70 a year.

Active Solar Heating System (to supplement existing hot water
system)

Building Programme for information about grants

Double Glazing
Reduces heat loss from 20% to 10%.
Cavity Wall Insulation
Reduces heat loss through the walls from 35% to 10%.
Typical savings of £80 a year. HEES Grant.
Effective space heating and hot water heating controls
Set your time clocks correctly.
If you reduce the time by one hour a day you can save £20 - £25
over the winter period. Save approximately £40 - £50 a year by
turning your thermostat down by 1C.
Draught stripping around doors and skirting boards and other
service entries into the house.
Around doors and windows, save between £10 - £20 a year.
Between floor and skirting boards save £5 - £10 a year.
Thermostatic Radiator Valves
Set each room temperature to the correct setting. Get your money
back through savings in 4 to 6 years.
Condensing Boiler
Save approximately 30% on running costs compared to an old
boiler. Cost savings of between £50 - £150 a year, depending on how
well insulated your home is. You may check whether you are eligible

Energy Efficient lighting and lighting controls
Use fluorescent lighting if possible. Save approximately £40 or
more over the life of a compact fluorescent lamp.
Insulated hot water cylinder and hot water pipes
Savings of £15 - £25 a year.
Hot Water Cylinder Thermostat set to 55C - 60C
Possible savings of up to £20 a year.
Radiator Reflectors
Up to 10% can be saved depending on fitting details.
Photovoltaic Panels
Generation of electricity from sunlight via rooftop panels.
Typical installation costs are 7 per Watt of solar power generated,
so £12,000 - £14,000 investment required for a 2 kW system.See the

Passive stack ventilators for kitchen and bathrooms
Save between £15 - £20 per unit.
