Fly-tipping
So, just what is it?
Fly-tipping is the illegally dumping of waste such as bin
bags full of rubbish, sofas and large quantities of waste dumped
from a van.
The problem locally
April to June statistics for 2008 show a drop of 376
incidents compared to the same period in
2007. That's encouraging, but still not good enough.
A priority
Our council enforcement team takes fly-tipping very seriously
and it is one of its top priorities. Offenders will be
prosecuted and issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN).

The problem:
- UK costs are approx £150 million p.a. to investigate and clear
- that’s passed to you as a taxpayer!
- fly-tipping poses a threat to humans and wildlife; spoiling our
enjoyment of the Vale in rural and urban sites. Read about some
of the effects.
- areas subject to repeated fly-tipping may suffer declining
property prices.
Deterrent
Fines may be imposed up to £50,000 and up to 5 years
imprisonment, especially if hazardous waste is dumped.
You may lose your vehicle as police have the power to seize it
if you are caught fly-tipping. Remember the driver and owner of a
vehicle can be prosecuted.
There’s no excuse!
As your Council we will collect your household bulky items for
free! We offer a comprehensive household recycling service and
there are numerous recycling centres and bring banks located across
the Vale of Glamorgan.
If you are unsure about what to do, we can help - laziness,
ignorance or not caring really isn’t excuse. We want to work
together to ensure that next year the figures dramatically decrease
from 376 to zero! Thank you for helping us to continue to combat
this serious environmental problem.
