Retail
Shops selling lots of batteries (approx 345 4-packs of AA
batteries) have to provide battery recycling collection
facilities instore. Look out for boxes where you bought
them from;
follows are retailers we are aware of:
- Tesco (Express, Holton Road and Barry)
- Waitrose, Palmerston Road, Barry
- Morrisons, Penny Way, Barry
- Home Bargains, Thomspon Street, Barry
- Iceland, Holton Road, Barry
- Instore (Pound Stretcher), Waterfront Retail Park, Barry
- Wilkinson, Holton Road, Barry
- Argos, Barry (this store accepts ink cartridges and water
filters)
- Boots stores, Penarth and Barry
- Kitchener and Thomas, Windsor Rd, Penarth
Why bother?
Batteries are classified as hazardous waste and must be
carefully handled and disposed of in order to comply with
legislation. Before 2010 in the UK, only about 3-5% of
all household batteries were recycled.

What else can I do?
- Use rechargeable batteries wherever possible
- Buy a solar powered recharger
- Plug electrical equipment into the mains electricity
- Try to buy renewable energy items, e.g. a
wind-up radio/torch
