Shops selling lots of batteries (approx 345 4-packs of AA batteries) have to provide battery recycling collection facilities instore. Look out for boxes where you bought them from;car battery follows are retailers we are aware of:

  • Home Bargains, Thomspon Street, Barry

  • Argos, Barry (this store accepts ink cartridges and water filters)

Why bother?

Batteries are classified as hazardous waste and must be carefully handled and disposed of in order to comply with legislation. Before 2010 in the UK, only about 3-5% of all household batteries were recycled.

What else can I do?

  • Use rechargeable batteries wherever possible
  • Buy a solar powered recharger
  • Plug electrical equipment into the mains electricity
  • Try to buy  renewable energy items, e.g. a wind-up radio/torch
