Remember:

Anything you recycle kerbside can also be taken to our Household Waste Recycling Centres in Barry or Llandow.

 

Tip:

If you are still in doubt whether you can leave an item out for recycling, add it to your container and our crew will leave behind anything that cannot be accepted. Where possible try and reduce and reuse your waste before recycling it.

 

Letter A

Aerosol cans - kerbside recycling. Please ensure they are empty, remove the lid and add this to your container separately

Air conditioning appliances - Llandow and Barry recycling centres or ring and request for our free bulky household collection service

Aluminium cans - kerbside recycling; ensure they're clean and crushed to save space

Aluminium foil - kerbside recycling; ensure it is clean from food or chemicals

Apple cores - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Answer machine - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Asbestos - please contact us to ensure it's disposed of safely

Autumn leaves  - please either home compost or add to your kerbside collection

 
   
 
Letter B

Baby food jars - unscrew the metal lid, rinse and place both items separately in your kerbside collection

Baked beans - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Banana skins - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Batteries - car/household batteries can be taken to Llandow or Barry recycling sites.

Don't forget most electrical stores at point of purchase will have a recycling facility and household batteries can be taken to  either the Civic, Dock or Alps Council offices.

Beans - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Beer bottles - kerbside recycling

Belts - Llandow and Barry recycling centres or recycling banks

Bikes - The bike doctor at Holm View Leisure Centre will repair old bikes or at least re-use parts, or take them to Llandow and Barry recycling banks

Biscuit tins - please add to your weekly kerbside collection box

Biscuits - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Body care appliances - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Books - recycling banks or take them to a charity shop/reuse them where you can

Bones (meat or fish) - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Bread - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Bread bags - place them in your weekly co-mingled recycling collection box

Bric-a-brac - consider a car boot sale or donate to a charity shop

Butter and margarine tubs - add them to your weekly co-mingled recycling collection

 
   
 
Letter C

Calculator (electrical) - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Cake - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Can opener - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Cardboard - kerbside recycling, place in the base of your container to ensure quality

Cans - kerbside recycling

Cards - kerbside recycling (please remove any non-card items such as glitter, glue or ribbons; although most of these could be reused).

Carpet - why not advertise it locally with Freecycle? Alternatively use it on an allotment

Carrier bags - these should be reused before being recycled

Carrot tops - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Cartons - kerbside recycling, see Tetra Pak; please rinse items.

Cartridges - send them to charity, some will collect or offer free postage

Catalogues - can be placed in your kerbside recycling container

Cathode ray tubes - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

CDs - the plastic cover can be  recycled kerbside. Take the actual CD to your local charity shop, sell it at a car boot sale or use it as a bird scarer in gardens

Cellophane - kerbside recycling

Cereal boxes - separate the plastic bag from the box and place both items kerbside

Cheese - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Christmas trees - please use our free January kerbside collections, be sure to remove all decorations. We usually collect during the first full week of January, simply leave your tree out on your normal allocated waste manegement collection day.

Cheese packaging - this is mainly made from plastic or card, foil can be added if clean of food. Place all components in your weekly collection for co-mingled recycling

Cling film - Llandow and Barry recycling centres, recycling banks or kerbside recycling

Clock (electrical) - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Clothes - Llandow and Barry recycling centres, recycling banks, or your local charity shop

Coffee grounds - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Coffee jars - place both the lid and jar separately in your kerbside recycling container

Coffee machine (electrical) - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Computer monitor - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Cooked food - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Cooking oil - Llandow and Barry recycling centres

Egg boxes - these are usually plastic or cardboard, as long as it is not polystyene add it to your kerbside container

Egg shells - add to your food caddy to be recycled

Electric stove - Llandow and Barry recycling centres / free ring and request

Envelopes - we accept this is labour intensive, but if you have time remove the gum and any windows, the paper can then be added kerbside

Flour packaging - once empty add to your co-mingled collection

Flowers (dead)  - please either home compost or add to your kerbside collection
