Eco Schools
Just what is an eco school?
It's an international initiative that encourages pupils to
engage with environmental and sustainable development
issues. In Wales the
programme is managed by Keep Wales Tidy.
Topic areas
They include:
- litter
- waste minimisation
- transport
- healthy living
- energy
- water
- school grounds
- global citizenship
Pupils take on key roles
Their proactive decision making process extends learning
beyond the classroom and in to their home
and proactively in wider communities.
Eco-Schools International green flag
Is awarded to schools with high achievement in their programme,
with the award being re-assessed and renewed every two years and is
the ultimate accolade. Schools may also be recognised with a bronze
or silver certificate.
