It's an international initiative that encourages pupils to engage with environmental and sustainable development issues. In Wales the programme is managed by Keep Wales Tidy.

 

Topic areas

They include:

  • litter
  • waste minimisation
  • transport
  • healthy living
  • energy
  • water
  • school grounds 
  • global citizenship 

Pupils take on key roles 

Their proactive decision making process extends learning beyond the classroom and in to their home and proactively in wider communities.

 

Eco-Schools International green flag

Is awarded to schools with high achievement in their programme, with the award being re-assessed and renewed every two years and is the ultimate accolade. Schools may also be recognised with a bronze or silver certificate.
