Food and drink carton recycling
Recycled at five sites
5 special collection bins in the Vale have been installed for
cartons. You can either use our recycling centres in
Sully and
Llandow. Or visit local Tesco stores at Barry,
Penarth and Culverhouse Cross.
Tetra Pak Ltd
Are responsible for emptying the bins and, once collected, the
cartons will be taken away to be baled before being transported to
a recycling mill.
What happens to these products?
They're turned into a number of different things
including plasterboard liner to high-strength paper bags and
envelopes.
How much are we talking about?
Each year, UK beverage carton manufacturers produce
approximately 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice,
sauces and other liquid foods and drinks. This is an
incredible amount when you consider a double decker bus weighs
around 8 tonnes!
Residents are reminded that Tetra Pak cartons cannot be
collected as part of the Vale Council’s kerbside scheme. As they
need to be collected and treated separately, please only use the
special bins at the five sites.
