Tidy Towns

Cash boost
The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has
awarded all Welsh local authorities a Tidy Towns grant to improve
the environmental well-being across Wales. The Vale has secured
£331,605 towards meeting specific goals and must be spent by March
2011.
Tidy Towns aim is:
To encourage people in Wales to enjoy cities,
towns and villages that are clean and tidy. Community groups
should consider uniting to tackle ‘hot spot’ areas outside the
Council’s main focus. For example, spots that suffer from
fly-tipping and graffiti.
Apply now
Applications are invited from community and
voluntary groups; you don’t have to be undertaking work in one of
the Vale’s four towns; it can be for villages and the rural Vale.
Groups may apply now for a portion of funding to help make a
difference to projects that specifically affect local environmental
well-being.
Uniting stakeholders
The money WAG has awarded through Tidy Towns
will mean the initiative brings together key stakeholders, Keep
Wales Tidy, volunteers, Schools working towards, their ‘Eco
Schools’ status, disengaged groups, local businesses and it may
even encourage cross boundary working with our neighbouring
authorities.
Ideas:
- Dedicated clean-up team
- Chewing gum removal machine
- Planting
- Creating habitats or community gardens
- Cultural/arts projects or biodiversity enhancement.
We are happy to provide assistance if outlined in proposals. In
certain areas it will sometimes be necessary to install some
preventative measures such as earth bunds, blackthorn planting or
sign erection.
