Get Active!
Activity doesn’t have to be traditional
Instead it can include gardening chores such as digging,
housework, e.g. vacuuming.
Build activity into your daily routine
Physical activity doesn’t have to be about taking time out of
your day to exercise, it’s about fitting it in around your normal
day.
You could:
Get off the bus earlier.
- Wash your own car instead of taking it to the car wash.
- Park your car a little further away from the office.
- Go for a walk at lunchtime or walk the children to School.
- Tackle your house clean with renewed vigour!
- Walk your dog on a challenging route; taking hills or walk at a
faster pace.
These are just suggestions, but if you start to think active
rather than inactive you will start to realise the possibilities
that surround you in your everyday life.
How often should I be physically active for?
A chief medical Officers report recommends A total of 30
minutes a day, on at least five days of the
week.
What type/intensity should I do?
At least moderate intensity. This means that you work hard
enough to become warm and you breathe a little harder.
Every little helps….
Every calorie you burn makes a difference! If you are only able
to manage four extra five-minute walks each day, you
could lose an extra ½ kg (approximately 1lb) a month. Over
a year this adds up to 6kg (12lbs) and may help you achieve a
healthier lifestyle.
