Highway Maintenance Division: Environmental Policy
The Highway Maintenance Division has always placed great
emphasis on the management of the environment and the prevention of
pollution.
The impact of highway issues on the community and the importance
of sustainable highway maintenance and management is increasing
year on year.
The Division will continually strive to improve the quality of
environmental management by careful consideration of the process
used during the planning and execution of operations.
This will ensure compliance with environmental regulations as
well as continuous improvement in our performance. It will also
reduce the impact on the environment.
Wherever possible materials will be recycled and re-used and all
operations designed to minimise waste. Increasingly, energy
efficient products, plant and equipment will be used and all forms
of pollution addressed including noise, contamination and
light.
The Division will conserve, restore and enhance the Vale of
Glamorgan's highway and natural environment, keeping it safe,
secure, healthy and pleasant.
We will promote understanding and participation in environmental
issues through education, training and information.
The Division will establish close liaison with its partners on
environmental issues within sectors of the Vale of Glamorgan
Council, external bodies, statutory authorities and regulators
together with the emergency services.
In order to achieve this, the Highway Maintenance Division will
use as guidance the standards specified in BS EN ISO 14001 and the
Green Dragon Environmental Standard, with a target of the Division
achieving and maintaining accreditation in both.
