Disability facility grant for a private property
The Disabled Facilities Grant is available for a range of
adaptations and facilities that will help a disabled person or
elderly person continue to live in their home.
You can apply for a grant if you or someone living in your
property is disabled and:
- You, or the person on whose behalf you are applying, are either
the a tenant or owner of a property (If you are a Council tenant
you will be initially signposted to The Council Housing Adaptations
Team)
- You can certify that you, or the person on whose behalf you are
applying, intend to occupy the property as your/their main
residence throughout the grant period, currently 5 years
The person who applies for the grant does not have to be the
disabled person who needs the adaptations but whoever applies for
the grant must provide a certificate of ownership or tenancy.
In the first instance, all enquiries will be passed to an
Occupational Therapist to carry out an assessment to identify your
needs and the adaptations required. The Occupational Therapist may
decide that no adaptations are needed and support from Social
Services and/or other funding routes such as charities are more
appropriate.
Your needs will be evaluated by the Occupational Therapy team
and the highest priority cases will be dealt with first.
Once we receive the recommendations from the Occupational
Therapist, we will contact you to discuss the assistance available
to you.
Applications for assistance are means tested. This involves a
comprehensive questionnaire about your financial situation to find
out if you are eligible for a grant and if you are how much you are
entitled to.
Charities
can also give help and advice.
Parents of disabled children are not means
tested.
