Homeless or about to become homeless?
Our Housing Advice Team can provide you with advice and
assistance to secure alternative accommodation.
You may have lost your accommodation already,
been served with a Notice to Quit or are staying temporarily with
friends. Whatever your situation, our Housing Advice Team can help
you.
Our Housing Advice Team can be contacted at
the Housing Reception at the Civic Offices, Holton Road, Barry,
CF63 4RU. We operate drop in sessions and you do not need an
appointment although you may have to wait to see an assessor.
Our Housing Advice Team can also be contacted
by telephone on 01446 709 567.
What happens next?
You will be asked questions about your housing
situation and wherever possible, be given help to prevent you from
losing your current home if you have one. We will also give you
information about other housing options that may be available to
you, such as private renting. The Assessor will also give you
advice on whether the Council has a duty to provide you with
accommodation should we be unable to prevent you from becoming
homeless. You may be asked for further information to enable us to
make these assessments, so we ask that you provide this information
as quickly as possible.
The Council’s Investigations and
Decisions:
From the questions asked of you, the Council
will make a decision on whether you are homeless, eligible for
assistance, priority need, intentionally homeless and have a local
connection to the Vale of Glamorgan.
The Council may provide you with temporary
accommodation at this time for a short period whilst alternative
accommodation is found. This accommodation may be a hostel with
shared facilities, short-term private rented or a Council property
specifically designed for temporary use.
We will issue you with a decision letter based
on the information you have provided us with and will give you
information on applying for a review if you disagree with the
decision that has been made.
If the Council aggress that you are homeless
and eligible for help, we will look at other options for you such
as bidding for permanent accommodation through the Council’s
Homes4U scheme or securing long term private rented.
If the Council cannot assist you by providing
accommodation, we will still give you advice to help you find your
own accommodation.
