Housing Management

Housing Management services include the management of the Councils housing and garage stock, letting empty homes, dealing with neighbour nuisance, managing rent accounts and working in partnership with tenants to improve our services.

Phylis StreetWorking with our Tenants

There are two residents organisations in the Vale of Glamorgan:

  1. Gibbonsdown Resident Board
  2. Shakespeare Resident Association

Membership of residents' organisations is open to anyone living in the area and many tenants have actively played a part in forming and maintaining their organisations. The residents' organisations act as an important link between the Council and the various communities within the Vale of Glamorgan, and tenants are encouraged to actively participate in deciding on how best to address the needs of their communities.

Services for Tenants

The Housing Management Team provides services to just over 4,000 council tenants, making the Council the largest landlord in the Vale of Glamorgan.

All new lettings made by the Council are called Introductory Tenancies. If you want more information please download our Guide to Introductory Tenancies.

Most people will try to be good neighbours and don't set out to cause disputes. However, sometimes problems do arise. These may range from annoying nuisance, such as music played too loudly, to serious incidents such as racial or sexual harassment or threats of violence. The Council has developed a detailed leaflet, Solving Neighbour Problems, which provides advice and information on:

  • What you can do yourself to try and sort things out
  • When you should seek help & advice from the Council & what we can do.
  • Other organisations that can help you and what they can do.

If you are a tenant experiencing neighbour nuisance or anti-social behaviour, please download our leaflet Solving Neighbour Problems.

Rent Arrears

The Council is concerned that some tenants in arrears do not contact housing staff to discuss their problems.

If you do have difficulty paying rent or have outstanding arrears, then you should contact the Income Management Team on (01446) 709512 / 709513 immediately. We will treat your case fairly and in confidence. If we know there is a problem, we can often help you. If you delay action it will lead too serious problems and it is very important that you do not ignore any of the letters we send you.
