for Registration Services.
You can use this system to make an appointment
to register a birth or a death.

an appointment will take approximately 5 minutes. For security
reasons, this system will time-out after 20 minutes. Please
complete your booking within that time or the information you have
entered will be lost, and you will have to start again.

The Registration Service
The Register Office - our main roles are:
- Birth Registration – we register all births
that take place within the Vale of Glamorgan and provide a facility
for births outside our area to be registered by ‘declaration’.
- Re-registration - we re-register births to add
natural father’s details to a birth entry and/or following the
marriage of a child’s natural parents.
- Death Registration - we register all deaths
that take place within the Vale of Glamorgan and can also provide
the facility for deaths outside our area to be registered by
‘declaration’.
- Stillbirth Registration – we register all
stillbirths that take place within the Vale of Glamorgan and
provide the facility for stillbirths outside our area to be
registered by ‘declaration’.
- Marriage Registration – we carry out the legal
preliminaries for civil ceremonies and for religious ceremonies
other than Church of England or Church in Wales
marriages (exceptions may apply). We also register and conduct
marriages at the Register Office and Approved Premises (that is,
certain venues who have obtained licences) within the Vale of
Glamorgan. It may be necessary for a registrar to register a
marriage at a Religious Building, please contact us to
discuss.
- Civil Partnership Registration – we are
responsible for carrying out the legal preliminaries for civil
partnerships for same sex couples in Register Offices and Approved
Premises in England and Wales. We also conduct and register civil
partnership ceremonies within the Vale of Glamorgan.
- Certificates – we provide certified copies of
birth, stillbirth, death, marriage and civil partnership
certificates for those events which occurred in this District.
Please note that the District’s boundaries have changed over the
years so please contact us to confirm that we have the entry you
require.
- Citizenship Ceremonies – we are responsible
for co-ordinating Citizenship Ceremonies in the Vale of
Glamorgan.
- NCS Checking - we offer a checking service for
people wishing to apply for British citizenship.
The statutory services are overseen by the General Register
Office (GRO) which is part of the Identity and Passport
Service (IPS). The GRO has a responsibility for England and Wales
