Unified Needs Assesment
Vale of Glamorgan Unified Needs Assesment
The Local Service Board agreed that a single needs
assessment needed be produced to inform and underpin the
development of The
Community Strategy (2011-21). The single needs
assessment has highlighted the evidence
which has enabled the setting of the key priorities for
the Vale.
The LSB has identified ten outcomes which will form the ten year
vision for the The
Community Strategy (2011-21). The Local Government Data
Unit was commissioned to provide an assessment of the extent
to which data and other related evidence supports the proposed
outcomes.
None of the ten priority outcomes can be assessed by a single
indicator; the Data Unit has therefore sought to identify a
'basket' of data sources or indicators which can be used as a proxy
to understand the position with respect to the proposed outcomes.
There are overlaps between facets of the outcomes and so
consequently data sets will often act as a measure for more than
one outcome.
For many of the indicators, the Data Unit looked at the position
in the Vale with respect to the all Wales position. In many
cases, they also considered where the Vale is positioned with
respect to the upper and lower quartile values for Welsh
authorities. Equally important is how the position in the Vale
has changed over recent years and in many cases several
years of historical data has been reviewed.
It is worth stressing that data may not in itself provide the
complete picture, but it does provide a pointer to areas for
further examination. While this report is based largely on
publically available, national data sets, there can be variations
in data quality.
