Conservation Areas

Conservation Areas recognise the special architectural and historic character of an area, and provide for the protection and enhancement of groups of buildings, as well as their setting. There are currently 38 Conservation Areas in the Vale of Glamorgan, which contain varied and important townscape and rural villages.

For further, more detailed information, you can download a guide to living and working in a Conservation Area which describes the principles of planning control which can apply to your property. A Guide to Living and Working in a Conservation Area

Article 4 Direction

Additional powers over minor development to houses in single occupation are applied in the Penarth Conservation Area. The effect of these additional controls is to require planning permissions for alterations to elements such as hardstandings, windows, doors, roofs, the insertion of rooflights, boundary walls and gates which front onto a highway or open space.

A list of properties included in the direction and further information is available below.
