Joint Housing Land Availability Study
Each April, the Planning and Transportation Policy Team
undertake a survey that monitors the annual rate of house
building.
This information provides the baseline data for the Welsh
Assembly Government’s monitoring of housing provision in the annual
Joint Housing Land Availability Study (JHLAS) as required under
Technical Advice Note (TAN) 1. The study is co-ordinated by the
Welsh Assembly Government’s Department of Economy and Transport,
with input from local Housing Associations, Home Builders
Federation, Welsh Water and the Environment Agency.
The purpose of the study is to:
- Monitor the provision of market and affordable housing
- Provide an agreed statement of residential land availability
for development planning and control purposes; and
- Set out the need for action in situations where an insufficient
supply is identified.
The information contained within the study assists officers in
making assumptions on future housing provision within the Vale of
Glamorgan, particularly in relation to the development of future
land use planning. The study may also inform the determination of
planning applications.
