What we do

In the immediate aftermath of a disaster, the primary concern of the Emergency Planning Unit is to utilise the resources available to the Local Authority to provide support for the Emergency Services, and to coordinate the Voluntary Agencies to mitigate the effects of the incident.

As the emphasis switches to recovery, the Vale of Glamorgan Council will take the lead role in facilitating the rehabilitation of the community and the restoration of the environment.

In addition, the Emergency Planning Unit:

Emergency Event

  • Organises and participates in exercises.
  • Provides emergency training sessions to Local Authority Staff, Council Members and Voluntary Agencies.
  • Offers personal/professional development training opportunities (Courses, Seminars, Conferences).
