Clouds of Hazardous Material

If you are informed that there is a cloud of hazardous material in your area, please take the following steps to protect yourself and your family:

• Go indoors, stay there and tune into Radio Wales (882MW), Red Dragon Radio (97.4 & 103.2FM) or Touch Radio (1305 & 1359MW).
• Close all doors and windows, shut down all ventilation and air conditioning systems and block obvious draughts. (Remember to unblock these vents before switching everything back on).
• Extinguish all flames for example, pilot lights.
• Get our your home emergency pack.
• Cover or put all food in a closed, sealed cupboard or container.
• Wash and/or peel all fruit and vegetables before eating.
• DO NOT use leafy or difficult to wash food.
• DO NOT try to collect your children from school unless told to do so. They will be looked after properly by the school.
• DO NOT go outside until you are told to do so. (With some chemicals everything may appear quite normal and you wont be able to see or smell them).
• DO NOT USE RAINWATER any rainwater stored e.g. water butts should be discarded.
• DO NOT pet animals that have been outside.
• Listen for public announcements, they will inform you when you can go outside and of other actions you should take.
