Access to Social Care Services - Children

Our Children and Families department focus on 7 main groups:

  • Children and young people whose families need help babyand support to look after them because of ill health or other problems
  • Children and young people who are at risk of harm, have been neglected or who may have been harmed
  • Disabled children
  • Children who are looked after (in care)
  • Children and young people in trouble with the law
  • Children and young people looked after by the local authority and have now left care
  • Young people in need who have nowhere to live

At times it may be necessary to prioritise our services. However, where there are serious concerns for a child, we will provide a same day response. Our aim is to keep families together wherever possible, and therefore we work closely with children, their parents, relatives or other carers and with other organisations, to find the best solution. Our work will always take into account the child and family's religious, cultural and social background and the specific needs of the individual.
