Child Protection Referrals

What we do
Section 47 of the Children Act 1989 places a duty upon Local Authorities to investigate concerns about a child’s safety or welfare living or found within the Local Authority area.
In order to effectively protect children, we work closely with other agencies.
The Vale of Glamorgan is committed to the philosophy contained within Working Together to Protect Children and the All Wales Child Protection Procedures.
Expressions of concern about children are welcomed both from family members, members of the public and professionals.
Who is the service for?
Very few adults harm children deliberately and most often when harm does happen, families need support, not punishment or the removal of their
children. The service is aimed at children and families and focuses on:
- Positive outcomes for children
- Listening to children
- Working with families
- Sharing information with families
- Providing advice and support for families
- Being sensitive to race, ethnicity and culture
