Area Adult Protection Commitee
Foreword by the Chair of the Vale of Glamorgan Area Adult
Protection Committee
The Vale of Glamorgan Area Adult Protection Committee
(AAPC) has
been in operation since May 2002 and fully accepts and operates
within the guidance as outlined by "In Safe Hands" and its
associated documents.
Being accountable to the agencies that make up its membership
and responsible for developing, monitoring and reviewing adult
protection policies within the County Borough, the AAPC have endeavoured to
effectively implement any revisions to the Inter-Agency Policy and
Procedure.
We are mindful of the recommendations of our neighbouring
authority's Inspection of Services and welcome the links being
developed between adult and child protection procedures. We
acknowledge that there are important lessons to learn.
To build on our established procedure and to demonstrate the
importance of a co-ordinated response to adult protection, the post
of a Project Development Manager* was established in November 2003
and since then we have seen many positive outcomes, some being:
- An increase in the formal working relationships between
Anti-Social Behaviour, Community Safety and Domestic Abuse
Forums
- A more positive working relationship with our external
providers through the Provider Forum, in which V A Training has
been high on the agenda
- Increased awareness of protection issues
*The findings, conclusions and recommendations on this project
is included as part of this report.
Overall, the Vale AAPC is relying on the
commitment and enthusiasm of its members and their respective
agencies to build on the work to date. We are confident that this
will result in the pulling together of core themes across services
and will improve on the range and quality of services to vulnerable
individuals. We feel we are growing both in competence and
confidence in the investigating of adult abuse as well as in the
promotion of the protection of vulnerable adults.
