AAPC Inaugral Meeting
The Vale of Glamorgan Area Adult Protection Committee
The inaugural meeting of the Vale of Glamorgan Area Adult
Protection Committee (referred to hereafter as the AAPC) was on
13th May 2002. This was in pursuant of the developments associated
with "In Safe Hands" and the publication of the South Wales Adult
Protection Inter-Agency Policy and Procedures for the Protection of
Vulnerable Adults.
The AAPC is a multi-agency committee chaired by the Senior
Co-ordinating Officer from the Social Services Department namely Mr
Phil Evans, Director of Social Services.
The main aims of the AAPC are to:
- Develop, monitor and evaluate the practice of adult abuse
procedures
- To promote joint working between partner agencies
- Develop positive service cultures in order to prevent
abuse
- Publish an annual report demonstrating the above.
Other responsibilities of the committee are:
- To ensure all Vulnerable Adult referrals are responded to both
efficiently and effectively in accordance with the SWAP Policy
& Procedures.
- Aggregate information of all adult protection referrals and
their outcomes, within the Vale of Glamorgan borough.
- Audit specific cases so lessons may be learned and fed back
into practice i.e. serious case reviews.
- Collaborate with adjacent AAPCS
- Instigate an inter-agency review of any case where there is
significant concern identified, due to an apparent break down in
inter-agency procedures leading to the safety and welfare of a
vulnerable adult
- Promote awareness within statutory, voluntary and independent
organizations and the general public relative to adult
protection.
- Agree Shared definitions, categories and indicators of abuse
with partner agencies.
- Ensure compliance with inter-agency protocols - Le. sharing of
information.
- Agree multi-agency training programmes for adult protection
within the Vale of Glamorgan
- Monitor policy development, inter-agency referrals and decision
making processes
- Ensure all staff that have a responsibility for adult
protection are appropriately trained, qualified and
experienced.
