Intercountry Adoption

Residents of the Vale of Glamorgan are eligible to have an assessment carried out by our adoption team to see if they meet the criteria for Intercountry Adoption. Applicants will need to meet the criteria specified by the country from which a child comes from, as well as meet the requirements in this country.
Applicants have to meet all the costs involved, including a fee of £2,000 for a home study from the Vale of Glamorgan Adoption Team (N.B. This fee is subject to review).
All applicants will be expected to undergo both generic preparation training for all adopters as well as specific training for Intercountry Adoption.
The UK government department with responsibility for adoption is the Department for Education and Skills. They have a section of their website devoted to Intercountry Adoption.
If you are particularly interested in adopting a child from China you might like to look at the CACH (Children Adopted from China website)
For general intercountry adoption from a range of countries go to OASIS (Overseas Adoption Support and Information Service).

We are concerned that this recent case may give a misleading impression of Intercountry Adoption in Britain today. We would like to refer you to a press release from BAAF (the British Association for Adoption and Fostering).
