Children with Disabilities
The Children with Disabilities Team was established in February
2002. We are a specialist team who believe that a child with a
disability is a child first and should be encouraged and helped to
access the same services and treatments as other children without
disabilities.
Who is the service for?
To ensure the services we provide are given to people with the
greatest need, we carry out an assessment, to see whether the
child’s disability is substantially and permanently affecting their
everyday life.
Our service is aimed at children who are aged between 0 – 18
years and who have:
- a learning disability
- a significant physical or sensory impairment.
Who can make a referral?
Parents, family members and professionals can make a referral to
the Team.
What support is offered?
We offer a variety of support including:
- Assessment of need
- Advice and support
- Support work
- Referral to services
- Coordinated Care Packages
For more information, you can contact the Child Health and

If no one is available, you can leave a message on the answer
machine and a Social Worker will get back to you.
Disability Index
We also coordinate the Index of Children with Special and Particular
Needs. This is a register of children and young people age 0-18
yrs who have a disability or special need and live in the Vale
of Glamorgan. It is a voluntary register and familes will receive a
quarterly newsletter, full of information about services, events
and schemes.
The purpose of the Index is for social services, education and
health to work together to help monitor service provision and
provide a needs led service. For more information, please
visit our Disability Index pages.
