What is an assessment?
An assessment gives you a chance to talk to someone about
services that might make caring easier. A social worker will visit
you to talk about what help would be useful to you and the person
you care for. Some of the things you will talk about are:
- Whether you can get support as a Carer
- What help the person you care for needs
- What help you need to maintain your role, your own health and
your well being
- How social services or other organisations can help with your
needs
Under the Carers and Disabled Children Act 2000 you are entitled
to an assessment even if the person you care for has refused a
Community Care Assessment.
Why have an assessment?
An assessment gives you the chance to:
- think about what you need
- make sure that the services provided are useful to both you and
the person you are caring for
- talk, in private, to someone who understands your
situation
- be listened to
- talk about the support you think is important to carry out your
caring role and to maintain your health and well being
- think about whether you feel you can go on caring and the
choices you have
How do I know if I'm entitled to an assessment?
If you are a carer, then you are entitled to an assessment.
If you requested a Carers Assessment, but are still waiting or
your request was refused, please let us know via e-mail kisaac@valeofglamorgan.gov.uk
