Road Safety
Reducing the number of accidents on the road involves changing
attitudes
The main objective of our team of Road Safety Officers is to
make the Vale Of Glamorgan’s road users as informed as possible.
Our priority is safety on the roads and we promote this through
education, training and publicity for all ages and types of road
user, from pre school children to the elderly.
We do this largely through public education, particularly in
schools and by taking an active part in all national Road Safety
campaigns. Where relevant, the programme is planned with regard to
national, regional and local road accident data. This unit is also
responsible for the School Crossing Patrol Service and there are
close links with both the police and the local schools to promote
cycle training, safe use of roads when walking and safety when
travelling in cars. Information on all aspects of road travel is
available free of charge and we have a wide selection of booklets
and leaflets available free of charge. They cover a range of topics
including the use of seatbelts, advice for drivers and motorists,
out and about with young children, cycling, and drugs and
alcohol.
