Youth Service Pupil Referral Unit

A Flexible Curriculum For Young People

The programme has been developed to help young people become engaged fully at the age of 16+ with the transition from school to the work place or further education and training.

Currently the programme accepts young people aged 14-16 in Years 10 and 11 who have become self-excluded or permanently excluded from school.

The partnership works in close liaison with Pupil Support Services and accepts street-wise and those most vulnerable.  Young people are given a variety of activities and have literacy and numeracy lessons.  The programme caters for Arts; Information Services, Communication Skills, health promotion, nutrition, drama and issue based work.  The subjects are accredited via AQA, OCN and Youth Achievement Awards via ASDAN and D of E.

The programme works within a structural environment with a contract, which all young people agree to work to.  This enables both the staff and the young people to work within a safe and controlled setting.  The programme’s success relies upon the goodwill of the young people and the staff working towards achievable goals.
